GNYM Member Event Calendar
October, 2009

Mphasis Calendar events are held in all boroughs or counties of our region (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam) and beyond (New Jersey, Connecticut). Some events are marked ? when location is To Be Announced. All Mensa members and accompanied guests are welcome at all calendar events unless otherwise indicated in the listing. Young Mensan events are for Mensans age 18 and under only. Children are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all Mensa events, including Young Mensan events. Proof of Mensa membership is required for all GNYM-sponsored events.

Please call the CalendarPhone before attending an event to check for schedule changes. Late updates are often posted on the GNYM website, www.gnym.org

“The following information is provided exclusively as a service to our members and represents material provided to us by individuals in their independent capacities as organizers. Members are encouraged to be aware of their common-sense responsibility to (1) verify information regarding meeting place, time, cost, access, smoking policy, and appropriateness for children, and (2) conduct themselves in such a way as to make their repeated presence welcome.”

SIGs are voluntary associations of members of Mensa, which operate independently of Greater New York Mensa. Their financial activities and liabilities are entirely their own, and not those of Greater New York Mensa. Furthermore, no SIG leader may obligate GNYM in any way.

This is the "munged" edition. Most events have details but no particulars.
For complete details, see Mphasis in print, or see the
members-only section which has complete calendar pages and complete Mphasis online.

Day At The Races
Lime Rock Park Racetrack, Lime Rock CT. 11AM-5PM
Hosts: ____ (GNYM), ____ (C&WM)
The Bruce Grohe Memorial SIG invites you to the beautiful Lime Rock Park race track to enjoy a day of SCCA Sports Car racing.  Join That Nice Tom Thomas and Mike Yost, sit on a grass hillside watching a variety of sports cars negotiate Lime Rock's twisty, challenging circuit.  Feast on whatever you bring (and what you might care to buy from the surprisingly good concession stands) and enjoy autumn in New England.  Dress in layers, expect anything from sunny and warm to cool and damp, the races run rain or shine.
Meet us on the Infield Spectator Area overlooking the Esses.  Look for yellow balloons.  Note: BYO lawn chairs or blankets, picnic food and drink.  No pets and No Glass Bottles.  Park admission is reasonable, $15 at the gate, $10 advance purchase from the track's website.
Lime Rock is located in northwestern Connecticut, and getting there on the scenic roads of the area is part of the fun.
For directions, or to order tickets, they have a website:
http://www.limerock.com/ or you can call them at 1-800-RACE-LRP.
For details about this event, or to RSVP, email ____, or call ____.

OUTSIDE EVENT
Participate in a New, National PBS Opinion Show!

The Smith Family Foundation Debate Series has become Two-Way Street
Two-Way Street is a new, nationally syndicated PBS debate program that will feature an exciting new element: YOU.

The premise of the title Two-Way Street is that unlike most policy programs where the communication is one-way -- pundits talking to the audience -- here the live studio audience will get to talk back and question the pundits. And that's where you come in!

We'd like to invite you to be a part of one of our upcoming programs:
FIRST TOPIC: "Drug Use Should Be Decriminalized" - 12:15pm
SECOND TOPIC: "Corporate Farming is Bad for Your Health"- 2:45pm
DATE: Thursday, October 15
TIME: Arrive at either 12:15pm or 2:45pm
LOCATION: Midtown Manhattan (address will be sent with the RSVP confirmation)

So if you'd like to be a part of a show...
Forward your name, organization or affiliation, email address, phone number, and choice of topic to: audience@twowaystreet.tv

Seating is limited so we will be filling the audience on a first come, first serve basis. (Also, if you'd like to share with us a sentence or two of your thoughts on the topic, that would be great.)
There are no guarantees, but if we have space, we'll write you back with the precise location information & other details. Get those clever questions ready, and we hope to see you soon!

-- Two-Way Street Production Staff

(see episodes at http://www.twowaystreet.tv/ . after the trailer completes, you can select episodes.)
