Young Mensans Board the Intrepid
Aircraft Carrier Air & Space Museum
Guy Rosenschein
On Sunday, August 22, 1999, the Young Mensans had a chance to visit the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier Air & Space Museum. The Intrepid aircraft carrier has been berth on the Hudson river for most of the past 30 years. Because this event took place during the summer, when many people are away on vacation, I did not get a large crowd. All that did attend had a really good time.
The history of the Intrepid is fascinating and we were lucky enough to have people there who happened to be present when she fought during World War II. Their memories were very vivid, even after half a century had past.
The carrier itself is a wonderful piece of technology, for its time. The airplanes exposed on it are very interesting. As I am somewhat knowledgeable concerning airplanes, I provided as much explanation as I could.
We spent a little more than two hours on board. We could have stayed longer but other commitments called us away. For those who missed this event and for those who wanted to visit the submarine (on the same pier) when we finished touring the carrier, I will consider doing it again. Let me know if you would be interested. |
