    • For Password, enter the password assigned to you by American Mensa, Ltd.
    • Click OK.
  • To log off, you have to close all of your web browser windows. (Please log off if you are using a public computer.)

Occasionally-Asked Questions:

  • Who may access?
    • Members of Greater New York Mensa are automatically granted access. Members of other local groups are not.
    • You are a member of Greater New York Mensa if you are a member of American Mensa, and have selected Greater New York Mensa as your Local Group. (This is selected for you automatically if you live within the territory covered by Greater New York Mensa.) Members of Greater New York Mensa also receive Mphasis (the newsletter of Greater New York Mensa) by mail.
  • What is my Username?
    • Your Username is your Member Number.
    • Your Member Number was assigned to you by American Mensa, Ltd.
    • It is found on your membership card, on the address label of Mensa publications you receive (Mensa Bulletin and Mphasis), and most other American Mensa correspondence.
    • The Member Number is all digits, always begins with "1", and ranges in length from 7 to 9 digits.
  • What is my Password?
    • Your Password is the password for online access that was assigned to you by American Mensa, Ltd.
    • When you joined Mensa, they sent you a password along with your membership information.
    • (Long-time members were sent passwords several years ago, when online access began.)
    • In some correspondence they referred to it as your "online PIN code".
    • If you ever changed your password, then your password is whatever you changed it to.
  • What is a PDF file?
    • PDF stands for Portable Document Format. PDF is a popular way to share formatted documents between computers.
    • We use PDF to share printed documents. If you view or print a PDF of our newsletter, it will appear nearly identical to the print version.
  • How do I view a PDF file?
    • Usually you can open a PDF file in your web browser by clicking on the link. Use your browser's Back button to return to the index page.
Or you can save the PDF file and open it.
    • However, you need some kind of PDF reader software installed on your computer.
Adobe Reader is the best-known PDF reader software.
The free Adobe Reader software is available here: www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Troubleshooting:

  • My password doesn't work!
    • Try typing it again.
      • Passwords are case-sensitive. ("A" is not the same as "a".) Make sure you type all letters in the correct case.
      • Make sure the Caps Lock function on your keyboard is turned off.
      • Passwords mix numbers and letters. Take care not to confuse similar characters, for example 0 (zero) and O; 5 and S; 1 (one), L, l, I, and i.
    • If you click on Cancel, or after 3 failed attempts (Internet Explorer only), you will get an error page, "Authorization Required". You can use your browser's Back button to go get back to this gateway page.
  • My password still doesn't work!
    • Did you copy your Member Number / Username or your Password incorrectly?
    • Did you change your password and not cross out the old password?
    • Did you lapse your membership in American Mensa?
    • Is GNYM your Local Group?
  • Still stuck!
    • Try your Username and Password on the American Mensa web site. You are supposed to have access there regardless of your Local Group. Go to this page: www.us.mensa.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Login . (Anyone may view that page.)
      • If you CAN access the American Mensa password-protected pages, then look yourself up in the Membership Directory.
        • If your local group is not 01-100, then you are not registered in GNYM, and that is why you cannot access the GNYM members-only pages. (If you wish, you may contact American Mensa to make GNYM your local group.) (If you are visiting our area, you may write to webmaster@gnym.org .)
        • If your local group is 01-100, then you are registered in GNYM, and you should be able to access the GNYM members-only pages. If you can access American Mensa but not GNYM, it is due to a technical problem. One trick that can fix this problem is this: After logging into the American Mensa web site, click on "Profile Update" and change your password. The new password takes effect immediately there, and it kicks in about 24 hours later on the GNYM web site. If you're not comfortable changing your password online, contact American Mensa -- see www.us.mensa.org/Content/AML/NavigationMenu/AMLContacts/Contacts.htm
(If you're still stuck, you may advise webmaster@gnym.org, so that we may complain about it too.)
      • If you CANNOT access the American Mensa members-only pages, then you most likely have lost your password. (Provided you have not lapsed your membership in American Mensa.)
Maintenance of the Password is up to American Mensa. Only American Mensa can change it for you. The official help for access problems is found on the American Mensa website.
American Mensa has some self-help for lost passwords. (But it only works if your current e-mail address is already registered with American Mensa.) Right there on the Login page is a link called "Forgot your password?".
        1. Click on the link "Forgot your password?"
        2. Fill in the e-mail address that you registered with American Mensa and then click on "Look Up".
        3. Check your e-mail. The e-mail will contain your password.
        4. Go back to the Login page and use that password. It has to work.
        5. If the above doesn't work, you will have to work it out with American Mensa.  You would have to e-mail or call American Mensa using the links above. They will assign a new Password / PIN and they will MAIL it to you.
    • One small bit of debugging help is available: You can have a Mensa friend look you up in the online Membership Directory. Assuming they can log in, they will be able to confirm that you are a member of American Mensa, verify that your local local group affiliation is GNYM, and confirm which e-mail address you have registered. (Some of these details are conditional, depending upon which details you have allowed to disclose, in your PDQ.)
  • If these self-help steps are not helping, you may write webmaster@gnym.org and we will see if we can help you.
  • It is best not to share your PIN with others. It gives more than access to information; it gives them the possibility of changing your Mensa records.
