The Movie Lovers' SIG
Wednesday, November 17, 1999 (time TBA)
Parlez Vous Movie Lovers' SIG?
Greg Draves
By popular demand, we're doing a foreign language film. Well, the votes are in, and it looks like the selection for November's foreign film will be Mononoke Hime (1997) (a.k.a. Princess Mononoke). This film is directed by Hayao Miyazaki, one of Japan's top Animé artists, and ranks second only to Titanic (1997) on Japan's all-time box-office money list.
This film is playing at the Angelika Film Center on W. Houston St. in Manhattan and at the Sony Lincoln Square theater at Broadway and W. 68th St. in Manhattan. Some of you have weighed in on time preference, and some can be accomodated and some can't. I don't see any reason why we can't attend more than one screening, as we will have a large enough group to subdivide, but we'll have to decide that as a group.
The screening times for Wednesday, November 17, 1999, are:
Angelika Film Center (18 W. Houston St.)
6 p.m., 7:20 p.m., 9 p.m. & 10:05 p.m.
Sony Lincoln Square Theater (B'way at W. 68th St.)
6 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.
Once again, I must encourage you all to purchase your tickets in advance! We've had too many screenings already where members have been disappointed by lack of available seating. You can go to the theater box office, buy by phone (Angelika--777-FILM, Sony--50L-OEWS), or online. For the Angelika, go to http://www.city-cinemas.com, for Lincoln Square, go to http://www.loewscineplex.com, or go to http://www.moviefone.com for either venue. Most likely, you won't be able to purchase tickets in advance by any means until the Thursday or Friday before the screening.
If you let me know your preferred screening, I'll let others know who'll be there. I'll also let everyone know which screening the plurality of members are attending, but let me know as soon as you can, so I can publish the information.
Finally, any recommendations about where to go for a bite after the show in either location will be welcome.
