Getting to the party at the Staten Island Hotel
The Staten Island Hotel is convenient to downtown New York City, Long Island, the New Jersey Turnpike, Newark and Kennedy International Airports. For an automotive travel map, view The Staten Island Hotel Location Map on the Staten Island Hotel's website. From Kennedy International airport (which is not on the map), take the Belt Parkway west to the Verrazano-Narrows bridge and then proceed according to the map.
By Public Transportation:
From the Staten Island Ferry terminal take the S44/94. (Buses with numbers in the 90's make Limited Stops along the same route.) Look for the Staten Island Hotel along Richmond Avenue on the left, just after passing under the Staten Island Expressway.
By subway, take the R train to the 86th Street station. Exit the station on the same side as the train going to the Bay Ridge 95th Street station, which is the last stop. At street level, both the S53 and, ahead of it, the S79 have their terminal stop on 4th Avenue. Take the S79 over the Verrazano-Narrows bridge to either of the two stops inside of the parking lot at the Staten Island Mall. Wait at the same stop for either the S44/94 or S59 to continue along Richmond Avenue (the S79's other terminal stop is around the Mall). The Staten Island Hotel will be on the right, just before the Staten Island Expressway.
It is also possible to take the S53 over the Verrazano-Narrows bridge and transfer to either the S44/94 or S59 at different points along its route. Be sure and transfer to the bus which is heading towards the Staten Island Mall and realize that if you come this way the Staten Island Hotel will be on the left, just after passing under the Staten Island Expressway.
From Manhattan there is also express bus service on the X10 and X17 routes on weekdays with only the X10 running once an hour until 9:00 PM on Saturday and no service on Sunday.
Get a Metrocard:
The fare on New York City buses and subways is $1.50, with many free transfers between Staten Island buses. Fare must be paid with exact change, token or Metrocard; bills are not accepted. To get a free transfer between subways and buses you must pay the fare with a Metrocard. Metrocards are available at most subway stations and on the Internet at CitySearch.com. You might want to consider buying a Metrocard FunPass which, for $4.00, gets you unlimited subway and local bus rides for one day.
